Q.1. The section I want to register for appears to be full. Can I request a quota increase?
A.1. First, please check whether there is another section that fits your course schedule. If there is another section with suitable hours, you should register for that section. In compulsory cases, quota increases may be made by the Administration of the School of Foreign Languages, provided that the section is available.
Q.2. Can I attend classes in a section other than the one I am registered for?
A.2. No. Each student attends the section in which they are registered. If a student misses one hour of class due to a scheduling conflict, they may attend another section that fits their course schedule in order to make up for the missed hour, provided that they submit a scheduling conflict petition. Attendance is then taken in that section.
Q.3. Can I convert a course I previously took as non-credit into a credit course?
A.3. No. Courses taken as non-credit cannot later be converted into credit courses. You need to retake the course for credit.
Q.4. How can I select courses as non-credit?
A.4. You can select them from the “Elective Extra Courses” row located below the final semester on the course registration page.
Q.5. Where can I see my attendance record?
A.5. Attendance records are updated regularly on the A7 system. You can learn the date of the most recently entered attendance record from the course instructor.
Q.6. I missed the mid-term exam. What should I do?
A.6. To be able to take the mid-term make-up exam, you must submit a make-up exam petition within seven working days from the exam date and attach an official document justifying your absence. If the petition and the excuse document you submit within the application period are approved, you may take the make-up exam.
Q.7. I missed the final exam. What should I do?
A.7. Students who are eligible to take the final exam (students who have not failed due to absence) may take the resit exam without providing documentation for an excuse if they miss the final exam. Students who fail due to absence cannot take either the final exam or the resit exam.
Q.8. I would like to object to my grade. What should I do?
A.8. Exam papers are re-evaluated upon submission of a Grade Objection Petition within three working days following the announcement of grades.
Q.9. When and how can I receive my language certificate?
A.9. When you have successfully completed at least four levels and reached the graduation stage, you need to apply to the Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages with a copy of your transcript.
Q.10. I have a foreign language certificate. What should I do to start at the level appropriate for me?
A.10. The list of international exams accepted by the School of Foreign Languages is available in the Student Booklet published on our website. You may also contact the Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages to find out whether your certificate is valid. If you have a certificate from one of the accepted exams, you can apply to the Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages and start at the level appropriate for you.
Q.11. I have previously studied a foreign language, but I do not have a certificate. What should I do to start at the level appropriate for me?
A.11. You may take the Placement Test held at the beginning of each semester. To take this exam, you need to complete the application form and send it to sfl@yeditepe.edu.tr.
Q.12. I cannot register for courses according to my Placement Test result. What should I do?
A.12. Since our courses have prerequisites, the system does not allow you to select a higher-level course suitable for your level without first taking the prerequisite courses from which you are actually exempt according to your exam result. For this reason, your course registration will be completed after your Faculty Secretariat or Faculty Student Affairs Office processes your exemption based on the exam result we will send to your faculty. Some faculties may request a petition from students for this procedure.
Q.13. My book code does not work, and I cannot access the online activities.
A.13. Please contact the Language Coordinator.
