The Modern Languages English Program at Yeditepe University aims to equip our students with an English proficiency that provides a competitive advantage in the academic and professional world of the 21st century, through a curriculum supported by modern teaching methods, pedagogical approaches that enhance in-class interaction, and digital learning tools; it offers a strong linguistic and academic foundation that enables them to stand out in the global academic and professional arena.
The program goes beyond providing the academic English proficiency required for undergraduate education; it is structured holistically to develop critical thinking, effective communication, academic literacy, and presentation skills.
With courses designed in alignment with the disciplines of the students’ faculties, our English Program enables students to become individuals who can follow international literature, participate in academic discussions, and express themselves on a global scale. The curriculum is structured in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and aims to strengthen advanced academic reading, writing, discussion, and presentation skills.
Our English program consists of two semesters of compulsory Advanced English and Academic English courses, compulsory and elective English Speaking courses, and four-semester General English courses at the A1 and A2 levels—designed for students whose departments do not require the English Preparatory School Education, and offered both as compulsory and elective.
When determining the content of the Advanced English, Academic English, and English Speaking courses, students who plan to pursue graduate and doctoral studies abroad were also taken into consideration, and course materials were selected that significantly contribute to the development of their language skills and prepare them for internationally recognized examinations. Students who successfully complete our Advanced English, Academic English, and English Speaking programs possess the written and oral language competence required to complete internships at companies, institutions, and organizations abroad.
The English Program particularly aims to:
Develop the academic English foundation required in undergraduate education,
Strengthen critical thinking and academic discussion skills,
Equip students with presentation, analytical, and academic writing skills,
Support the professional communication skills needed in business life,
Develop globally relevant language proficiency and intercultural communication skills.
